He was a retired plant superintendent for Amoco Chemical Corp., former Indiana director of pipeline safety, former mayor and city councilman in Seymour, a former member of the Seymour School Board, an organizer of the Seymour Park & Recreation Department and a past vice moderator of the New Albany Presbytery. He was a member of the board of directors of Englishton Park Retirement Home and Area XI Agency on Aging, and a member of Seymour Chamber of Commerce and Elks Lodge 462. Survivors: his wife, Helen Ernest; four sons, Donald W. Ernest of Seattle, Edward E. Ernest of Allentown, Pa., James A. Ernest of Bloomington and George H. Ernest II; a daughter, Marilyn Reckel of Lebanon; a sister, Thelma Fleming of Columbus; and seven grandchildren. Funeral: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, First Presbyterian Church. Burial: Riverview Cemetery. Visitation: Voss & Sons Funeral Home, 2-8 p.m. Monday, and the church after 9 a.m. Tuesday. Memorial gifts: the church or donor's favorite charity.
